This is a really cool picture! I really like your choices in lighting. The focus in the foreground shows the detail in the bark of the tree, and the blurred background allows us to see only the outline of the tree. The use of high camera angle is also very good. It helps us see the tree as something reverential. I also think it is interesting how you do not see many leaves on this tree, showing that it is old and that it is the season of fall.
This picture is very well balanced. Everything is centered, and branches fan out at the top, almost equally on both sides. There are three main colors - brown, green, and white. There is a bit of green on the bottom, which is the moss. Above, there is almost the same amount of green in the few green leaves, which also gives balance. The ridges of the bark are almost leading lines to the top of the tree, but not quite, because in the upper half of the photo, they go out of focus. This sort of stops the viewer's eyes abruptly, but then they are drawn upwards by the bright light from the white sky. While there doesn't seem to be a statement here, there is a point to it. The idea seems to be to give the viewer a new view of a tree, almost as if they were a squirrel climbing straight up it.
Really cool pic! I love how the lighting lets you see some of the tree in clear and you can see a lot of details; and yet you can also see the rest of the tree, even if it isn't as clear. I love how it is a close up, you can really see a lot of the tree that you wouldn't have been able to see before. -Andrea L
This is a really cool picture. The low angle makes the tree seem really tall and commanding. The focus on the bark is really cool. This is a great reminder of how everyday objects, like trees, are extremely interesting when they are viewed in an out-of-ordinary way.

The creases in the bark are leading lines upward towards the sky and the branches. Also, the branches seem to kind of disappear into the sky the tree looks so high.
